Can a police officer arrest you if you’re sleeping in your vehicle drunk but have not been driving?

Contributor | I was intoxicated and walking to a parking lot, there were teams of police checking people, flashing flashlights in their face. As I walked to my car, an Officer stopped me and asked if I had been drinking. I said yes and that I was just getting something out of my back seat and then walking over to a friend’s apartment. The Officer watched me and let me go on my way and was luckily onto the next group of people. I quickly just walked AWAY from my vehicle. Walked several blocks, then back to see if any Police were there, which they were not. I then approached my car and went and laid down in the backseat to further sober up. After several hours, and drinking bottled water I had in the car, I was able to drive. That was a very sobering moment that I never did again. A major lesson was learned. This was before UBER and cell phones. Otherwise I’d just call a cab or Uber. I have many friends who Uber to bars and then home…
